Critics Consensus

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote may not live up to long-gestating expectations, but it bears enough of director Terry Gilliam's signature creative stamp to satisfy fans.

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review 02/12/2020
It has a scrappy, indie feel that I like...not for everyone...but an honest and compassionate account, the pain and the ecstasy of the creative process... Go to Full Review

It'd be easy to map Gilliam on to Grisoni, a film-maker dogged by his artistic misfires and the mess left in their wake. Really, though, he's Quixote, stuck in a noble past and wilfully disconnected from a present that jostles uncomfortably close. Go to Full Review

John U Nov 9 An absolute masterpiece by Terry Gilliam! So many layers, so much madness, so much heart. This is truly epic. See more Alex V Dec 28 As someone with a chivalric spirit of his own, I always loved the story of Don Quixote. I never got to see this movie in theaters but after watching it on YouTube, I really wish I did See more Dan M 11/14/2024 Given the director and the basis for the film, it should have been entertaining, but this is the most boring spin-off I've yet seen of the famous Don Quixote novel. See more Craig W 08/19/2024 It’s certainly a Terry film - for better or worse - always a barrel of visual delight See more Vidooshak T 06/22/2024 It stays on your mind long after the movie is over, which is the sign of well made art,I suppose. The story is unfamiliar to me and Gilliam's treatment only makes it more confusing. Jonathan Pryce is a delight to watch and I think the movie gets at the essence of the original story. See more K B 03/22/2024 Couldn't get into this movie. There were some good spots but just didn't hold my attention. See more Read all reviews
