Mabel McElliott New York Daily News Florence Vidor is delightful, and Monte Blue excellent. Adolphe Menjou has a smile more eloquent than polysyllables, which makes him eminently eligible for the silent drama, as it's called. May 18, 2021 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker For his second American film, from 1923, Ernst Lubitsch turned a drawing-room farce into bittersweet chamber music-which, aptly, plays out in Vienna. Oct 12, 2015 Full Review NYT Staff New York Times It is unalloyed bliss to watch The Marriage Circle. Mar 25, 2006 Full Review Robert E. Sherwood LIFE Lubitsch, because of his pictorial instinct, has managed to get along very nicely without excessive words. In acting, The Marriage Circle is most fortunate. Oct 7, 2021 Full Review Iris Barry The Spectator The Marriage Circle may well silence those who claim that the film cannot compare as a dramatic form with the stage-play. For this is at once perfect cinematography and perfect conventional drama. Jul 2, 2019 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Hit the spot back in the day and has value today of capturing a vanishing era. Audience Member The best comedy romance movie ever made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Unlike most films of the silent era, "The Marriage Circle" derives is humor from its biting social satire rather than Vaudeville-era motifs (i.e., situational comedy), although the film takes a more serious turn during its second half. Despite the "vamp"-type of character, Lubitch's subversive take on marriage and the petty jealousies that accompany monogamous relationships make this film feel strikingly modern. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Charming early Lubitsch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A little on the boring side. Could barely watch it... and I like Lubitsch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
