Don Giulio (Nanni Moretti), a Roman Catholic priest, returns to the village in which he grew up to replace the previous pastor, whose fathering of a child caused a scandal. Hoping to provide his hometown with a solid spiritual foundation, Giulio instead discovers that his old friends and family members have been living hedonistic lifestyles. After attempting -- and failing -- repeatedly to lead his loved ones down a more virtuous path, Giulio assumes a state of cynical bemusement to cope.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Von Nanni Moretti kenne ich noch nicht so viel, und vielleicht relativiert sich meine Einschätzung von LA MESSA à FINITA auch noch, wenn ich ihn besser im Gesamtwerk positionieren kann. Fà 1/4r sich freilich fand ich ihn nur mäÃig à 1/4berzeugend, da mit durchaus abgestandenen Bildern operierend (die er nur ab und zu in originelleren aufgehen lässt) und in seiner Grundstimmung zwar recht konsequent resignativ und strukturell einigermaÃen zerschossen, aber allzu oft unprägnant und wenig zwingend.
