Conor S It’s a fun movie, it’s not bad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Kenny A. The existence of this movie is baffling. While the concept and potential for an animated musical about King Kong is certainly there, the execution here is utterly inept, from its cheap and choppy animation, to its half baked songs, to its cardboard characters, to its awful pacing. The only redeeming factor is the occasional vocals by Jodi Benson and that’s it. It’s a shameless and soulless product that only exists to cash in on the popularity surrounding the then-popular Disney Renaissance films and the then-released “Mighty Joe Young (1998).” Kong or no Kong, there are far better giant ape movies out in the wild than this one. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review Rich A Classic retelling I watch this one over and over Kong fans must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Audience Member While the animation may be cheap, the song writing team responsible for The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, and The Aristocats contribute wonderful songs on par with the rest of their repertoire. Jodi Benson does her best to carry this direct to Video Film, but in the end their isn't much that can be done. With a larger budget and more care, this could have been a decent film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A Mighty disappointing remake do not see it. See King Kong (1933) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It doesn't really work well as a remake, and even then, kids might not even enjoy it much. Most of the film takes place on the ship, and very little time is spent on the island. Kong almost feels like a minor character. The songs get annoying, and the animation is cheap. It doesn't really add anything to the original, besides an alternative happy ending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
