Lily is a typical 150-year-old lovelorn vampire who's looking for the man of her nightmares -- until she lays her eyes on Herman, a 7-foot-tall green experiment with a heart of gold. It's love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet for each other in a Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily's father has other plans for his beloved daughter's future, and they don't involve her new bumbling beau.

Critics Consensus

The Rob Zombified Munsters revival shows clear affection for the source material, but it never translates into a compelling update on the classic series.

Without funny jokes or even a story that goes anywhere interesting, this Munsters movie is a major waste of time.

Anton Bitel Little White Lies Zombie has sent a love letter not just to a near-forgotten TV series, but to his own wife, refashioning the original Munsters as their own freakish love story in a conservative America whose values they parody. Jan 9, 2023 Full Review Carlos Aguilar The Playlist Packs substantial hilarity because it surrenders to the silliness of the concept without including anachronisms or attempts at sophistication. Rated: B- Oct 4, 2022 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety “The Munsters,” the family-of-ghouls ’60s sitcom that Zombie is adapting, was such a ticky-tacky piece of gothic bat-house surrealism that the movie, broad and slovenly as it is, works more than it doesn’t. Sep 30, 2022 Full Review Rosalie Kicks MovieJawn Don’t listen to the haters, THE MUNSTERS is fangtastic! Rated: 2.75/4 Jun 19, 2024 Full Review Graeme Tuckett The Post NZ If you're a grown up with ridiculously fond memories of the TV show... Or, if you have a couple of under 12s running around the house with a taste for costumes, high camp and the innocently macabre, then The Munsters might be a treat. Rated: 3/5 May 26, 2023 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof [Rob Zombie] has recovered the charm of the original to present a personal and respectful vision that wants to encapsulate the spirit of his legacy. Randy J I did not enjoy this movie. It didn't even come close to being as good as the original TV show. But it was nice to see Sylvester McCoy of Doctor Who in this movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Jeffrey P How can people be so negatively critical, a more faithful adaptation never would have worked today yet the heart of the original seems to be present. The Monsters is a grossly underrated film for a couple reasons. Firstly, it doesn’t embarrass itself in its adaptation of a television series. Second, the overall creative effort and aesthetic design are there to make it something more. The jokes don’t fully land and the story is considerably overdrawn over 100 minutes, with very little real conflict thus no resolution of any kind, which makes everything else stand-out that much more and dulling to the senses that much quicker. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/20/25 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie! Great scenery and awesome custumes. Definitely funny. Rob Zombie always has a great way to give a dark twist to his movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Daniel C Rob had a great change of pace and made a good family comedy. Just proves the man can do it all in the directors chair. The Munsters by Rob Zombie is a lot of fun you definitely can't go wrong with this flick. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Julian S THE MUNSTERS may not attract new fans, but for Zombie enthusiasts, it’s a lighthearted diversion, while devotees of the original TV show will likely be intrigued by the remake. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, o filme traz uma comédia de terror só que não funciona e os personagens são bens fracos.
