The Mustang is a quietly moving drama that follows Roman, a violent inmate who forms an unlikely bond with a wild mustang as part of a rehabilitation program. Matthias Schoenaerts delivers a compelling performance, portraying a man struggling with his past while learning about trust and redemption through his relationship with the horse. The film’s minimalist approach and stunning cinematography evoke deep emotions, creating a powerful story about healing, second chances, and personal growth. While it moves at a slow pace, its heartfelt narrative and raw performances make it a rewarding watch.

This was the movie I was introduced to Matthias as an actor. An assumed simple role turned into a powerful explosion of skill by this guy. The movie itself was absolutely fantastic. I like the medium pace of the movie. I like the writing and I like all the acting. Bruce dern is simply an old grouch and was an amazing character in this movie. Definitely worth a watch. I only got to experience and enjoy it just last year.

I thought this was a great story although it was a little dark and gruesome at times with the setting in a prison, however, we see the bright side in trying to rehabilitate these inmates using wild mustangs that need taming themselves.
