Boneyard L This movie is pointless as a mystery and useless as a suspense film. All of the relevant information is provided too late for the audience to solve the mystery and early on the film makes it clear that it's not playing fair. The twists and turns of the plot are often not even possible, let alone plausible, and the audience is left to simply take for granted everything that appears on screen. The acting is fine, but certainly a product of its time. This movie is a mostly unoffensive waste of time. Closest comparison: It's just another ‘mystery' in the vein of The Cat and the Canary and The Riverside Murder. Setting: Mystery Plot: Thriller Tone: Drama Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/02/20 Full Review Audience Member A 1940"s mystery of the times. With WWll treachery of the Japanese and Germans set the tone for the evil doings. Enjoyable watch B movie worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A typical Poverty Row B Movie mystery. It has most of the elements of an Old Dark House mystery--with dust covered furniture, cobwebs, secret rooms and hidden passages along with a masked murderer, and delightfully awful members of a money hungry family. The plot is a bit choppy and the murders few. But overall, it has some nice atmospheric moments, solid acting, and was painless enough for me to watch again sometime. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member While it's true that Mystery of the 13th Guest is a bit middle of the road, I found myself sort of enjoying the movie. It's meant to be a mix of comedy and horror, but I think the slapstick and silliness between characters pushes it a bit over the edge and it just comes off as silly most of the time. The characters aren't terribly interesting, but the story has some interesting things about it. The movie is a remake of The 13th Guest and is based upon the novel by Armitage Trail, who was the author of Scarface. A movie like this, as apposed to some of the other much broader movies of its type (I'm thinking in the vein of some Three Stooges shorts), is at least fun to watch. It's never boring and never really insulting. So it's pretty much middle of the road, but I kind of enjoyed watching it. I just wish that it was less silly. I don't mind the comedy, but it just went a bit too far for my taste. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
