Critics Consensus

The Nutty Professor falls back on juvenile humor eagerly and often, but Eddie Murphy's consistently funny work in dual roles means more for audiences to love.

Anime F This movie was so hilarious I almost completely died laughing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Meinhard P that's what we call "klamauk" Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Schroyer Family D Can you say hilarious?! This movie is definitely not one to forget. Professor Klump, played by beloved actor, Eddie Murphy, goes on to create a weight loss solution to his big weight problem, but in doing so he creates this alternative person that calls himself Buddy Love. The story line for this movie is brilliant and I don't think it's possible to stop laughing especially during the dinner scenes with the rest of the Klump family also played by Eddie Murphy. You just have to watch this, you will not be dissapointed. A side note from this movie is that you may not to show this film to children until they are older. The rating for this movie is PG-13 and has some crude humor and scenes that should be mature before viewing. That being said, it truly is a hilarious movie, check it out. Thanks for reading #schroyerfamilydaily #rottentomatoes #eddiemurphy #thenuttyprofessor #comedy #funny Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review Max G On its surface The Nutty Professor seems to be a goofy movie overflowing with gross fart jokes and pure physical comedy but it is so much more than that. The Nutty Professor conveys a well thought out message of self acceptance. A message that is often not seen nor accepted in today's world. The movie does an okay job of balancing humor with the struggles of being obese. Because Sherman Klump and Buddy Love are very different characters, the constant switch between the two of breaks up the mood and tone, previously set by one of the characters. This causes the movie to become an emotional rollercoaster. Another problem with The Nutty Professor is the constant talk Sherman/Buddy's love life, which, can get old after a while. Buddy's humor is funny at first because it separates itself from the immature fart jokes, but after a while, it becomes annoying. This wouldn't be a problem if the other characters found it annoying but, they don't until the last two scenes of Buddy. Overall, The Nutty Professor provides fart jokes for a younger audience, and more adult jokes for the teen/adult audience and is a very funny movie. If you appreciate humor or Eddie Murphy or a message of self acceptance, then I would 100% recommend The Nutty Professor.
