A small unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh became the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghanistan War in 2009, and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.

It's a true-life story, masterfully directed by Rod Lurie who instinctively captures the danger, risks and moments of desperation and humanity of the event. Go to Full Review

Each death mattered. Each sacrifice resonated. Each act of heroism in the face of overwhelmingly lethal odds stopped my heart and forced me to pay rapt attention. Go to Full Review

While the first half of “The Outpost” is a borderline disservice, the second half is a fitting tribute to the soldiers who fought the Battle of Kamdesh. Go to Full Review

Roger L Nov 25 This is the most accurate representation of what life is like deployed. This unit in particular had an extremely bloody tour but the movie itself focuses on the entirety of their tour and not just the gruesome event that ended it. They looked at aspects beyond the deployment, in getting care and continuing the battle once they were back, something that very much is not touched on and is needed more. I have been to some of the areas here on my tour and think they did an amazing job of choosing a location to depict afghanistan. 2009-2010 was the bloodiest years of the occupation of Afghanistan. The way the troops talk to one another was perfect, the sudden loss of a leader, how that came out of nowhere jarring troop morale hit home for me personally. It comes out of nowhere, hits hard and fast then nothing but the silence and a screaming mind was depicted accurately too. For me this is the one film that is the most realistic depiction of life overseas as a soldier. See more Nick H Aug 24 From a former army veteran, this movie really nailed it with authentication . This movie was definitely better than expected. The base is totally vulnerable and a death trap and the Taliban frequently shoot at the troop from the mountains. In 2006, a horde of Taliban attack massively the outnumbered outpost and the fifty-three soldiers need to resist until air support comes. “The Outpost” (2019) is a great war movie based on a true story of Battle of Kamdesh, were a few American soldiers resisted to attack of the enemy. The screenplay is very well written and shows the bond created among the soldiers. The battle scene is magnificent and gives the sensation to the viewer that he is watching a real battle. I am not military, and I do not understand how a base is installed surrounded by mountains, jeopardizing the lives of the military. The conclusion showing the actors and the real soldiers is heartbreaking. My vote is eight. Never heard much spoken about this movie, I came across it by accident, but it's a real hidden gem. See more Matthew P Jul 18 The gripping realism of the fight scenes is weighed down by the threadbare characterisation and simple plot... So as far as drama is concerned this is on the wrong side of passable, but if it's a visceral experience of war that you're after then it's hard to beat...
