I'm not convinced that a Whimsical film adaptation is entirely appropriate for Dickens. That said it is enjoyable enough to warrant a viewing.

Armando follows 'The Death of Stalin' with a brisk, bright fantasia on Charlie's most likeable fellow. The story is compressed and spun until it flickers like a zoetrope, but the standout characters pop, and there are some beautiful transitions. The only thing I couldn't forgive was bringing in Dev Patel (rather than his childhood counterpart) before David escapes to Dover, denying us Tiilda Swinton chasing the Murdstones off her lawn. Otherwise delightful. The scenes of David's 'therapy' sessions with Mr Dick are particularly novel and moving.
