Ralph (David Elliott) needs a date for the junior prom and has his eye on the gorgeous Daphne Bigelow (Tobi Pilavin). Alas, such bliss does not come to pass, and instead he finds himself asking the plain Wanda Hickey (Roberta Wallach). As the prom looms on the horizon, a series of farcical events disrupt Ralph's existence, among them his "old man" (James Broderick) winning a risque table lamp, a church softball game that gets violent and a near-revolution at the local movie house.
