What to Know

Critics Consensus

With Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson's comedic chemistry fatally unbalanced, it's left to a game Keke Palmer and Eva Longoria to pick up the slack as The Pickup puts down too little.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Painfully long at just 96 minutes, this inert Hollywood action-comedy has a placeholder script that was never updated, instead hoping that the stars...could manufacture laughs on set with their performances. They do not. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 18, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Somehow this ineptly plotted affair lured Keke Palmer into its lair and her comedy chops all but gets handcuffed by an illogical, unfunny screenplay. Rated: 1/4 Aug 14, 2025 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine A weak shadow of Eddie Murphy’s action-comedy yesteryear, The Pickup would be better off being left unpicked. Rated: 2/5 Aug 13, 2025 Full Review Carla Renata The Curvy Film Critic For the most part the film delivers what it promises laughs, chaos and an endurable good time along the way...but that's about it Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Terry Staunton Radio Times Director Tim Story's feeble grip on the action set-pieces doesn't help salvage the sorry mess. Anthony G Not every movie is Oscar-worthy. Sometimes, you just want to watch a movie that doesn't make you think or invest emotionally. I'm in my pajamas and enjoying this one! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review Chris F It started okay. The scene where Eddie Murphy kicks the last thief out of the armored car is the last good scene. It devolves into the common trope of the thief with the heart of gold and the bumbling idiot sidekick as the perfect fool who never gets any smarter. It's not worth the time. Glad it wasn't my money that was wasted on this dismal and trite attempt at action/comedy. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Cesar B. This was such a bad movie, idk why Eddie Murphy would star in this. Such bad plot and a bad story, bad acting. Everything was just bad Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Mia B M Not a very good movie. It fell flat and plotless. Keke plays the same obnoxious role. Eddie and Pete I can dig. It feels like very CHATGPT like. Just scenes that don’t make any sense. I was more annoyed at the so called “storyline and plot.” I had to painfully force myself to watch til the end ….. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie is not bad definitely kind of cheesy as a movie not the best work of Eddie Murphy otherwise I enjoyed it, but it's not the best movie out there! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Rommel H With all that star power in the cast, you would think that they would have greenlit a decent script. Netflix continues to just churn out any old thing. The plot is not farfetched but the storyline is nonsense. Ninety six minutes I can never get back. 😑 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
