Patrick C Interesting watch from the Russian view of WWII. No mention of Stalin and his works. The Germans were once again the bad guys---- Good watch overall. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Rob W The first aviation story of WWII I’ve seen told from the Russian perspective. It is a story, rather than an attempt to document an actual series of events, but draws from actual experiences of several aviators rolled up into the one guy, “the pilot”. It’s an effective device, and the “real” contributing pilots are each given a brief synopsis as the credits roll. The flight scenes are brief, maybe 10% of the screen time, but they are high quality…better than much of the fluff and obvious CGI of most movies. The IL-2 sturmovich was the “real deal” as far as attack aircraft go, and it was nice to see the scenes when they are at work on the invading German hordes. Other Russian fighters are lightly used at the end, which give a sense of scale to the IL-2’d size. 60% of the movie is spent avoiding capture and death during the escape sequence, and the remainder is recovering from physical and psychological trauma, then returning to a sense of normalcy. The pacing seems to be just about right…every time I thought that a scene was starting to stretch on, something new happened to change it up. I don’t want to give too much away! Regardless of the current situation involving Russia now, this movie is still highly relevant and worth watching to see yet another point of view of WWII. There is one scene of female frontal nudity from the waist up, maybe 5-10 seconds worth. I am a retired attack pilot, and have been an aviation enthusiast for 45 years. This one is worth a watch. 9.5 out of 10. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Michael M Good solid Russian WWII movie. The version I watched had english overdub. Excellent special effects and attention to historical detail. Great dogfight and survival scenes. Well worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Scott Z Great movie, a must see. It's in Russian with English subtitles, but well worth it if you like war movies. Based on an incredible true story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Mickey S Excellent flick. I became Nikolai Komlev for 145 minutes. Watch it if you dig WW2 history. Are just dig good flicks. ✌ Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/23 Full Review Jon B The movie was good and I find documentaries to be better movies. The movie is worth watching.
