In a not-so-distant future, AI is all the rage and nature is becoming a distant memory. Tech giant Pegasus offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on a more equal footing via detachable artificial wombs, or pods. But at what cost? Rachel and Alvy, a New York couple, are ready to take their relationship to the next level and start a family. Rachel's work gives them a chance to fast-track to the top of the Pegasus waiting list. But Alvy, a botanist and devoted purist has doubts. Nonetheless, his love for Rachel prompts him to take a leap of faith. And so begins the wild ride to parenthood in this brave new world with all its twists, turns, and bumps along the way.

Critics Consensus

With its roundabout script undermining solid performances from Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor, The Pod Generation stimulates the mind but not much else.

Tasha Robinson Polygon 09/13/2023
The material they’re [Clarke and Ejiofor] given is often slim and simple, but they lean into it with everything they can offer, and find the relatability in characters who feel more like symbols than like people. Go to Full Review

The movie’s core is as inert as an uncharged iPhone, taking most of the sting out of its cautionary satire. Go to Full Review

Crepe-thin and perhaps a little too long, this sci-fi movie ultimately makes the cut thanks to its strong performances and a visual scheme that subtly clashes between the organic and the inorganic. Go to Full Review

It’s funny, heartwarming, and most of all – human. Go to Full Review

With its binary gender roles and its participation in the backwards stereotype that empowering women emasculates men, it’s quite a conservative movie. Go to Full Review

Google 08/22/2023 Surprising, witty with a good sense of humour See more Jay 08/19/2023 The premise was interesting but after about an hour into the film you're just ready for it to end. Not a bad movie but also not a great movie either. Wait for it to hit streaming. See more VITALII H @freakynickison Oct 26 Before watching this movie I bumped into one comment under the trailer that said that it looks like a "Black Mirror" episode, and that description couldn't be more accurate. The movie takes place in the 22 century that introduces us the new way of getting pregnant and having a baby. What you see on this poster is exactly how it is. Parents place their DNAs required for pregnancy in this egg that is filled with liquid that mothers are carrying in their body when they're pregnant, all thanks to the help from the specialized clinic. Since it's a movie I expected to see also how that baby is growing up outside of the egg. But all we see is just the way how the pregnancy process is going. It was interesting to watch although the movie itself is okay, it's not bad but during almost 2 hours of the movie they could've add something more to the plot. See more K M Aug 21 I loved this movie! Not sure why so many people have such issues with it. It’s not meant to be scientific or serious, it’s lighthearted and fun. I enjoyed it from start to finish, and would watch it again. See more Jimmson J Aug 17 Original and thought-provoking, watch it! See more Shelagh F Aug 8 It took me three attempts to get through this film. I really should have given up after the first and saved myself the time and effort. A truly awful film. Loved the concept but the writing just didn't live up to the idea. Not the fault if the actors who did their best. See more Read all reviews
