Mike P 07/14/2024 The Power of Few is a convoluted mess of non-linear, interconnected plot lines, none of which are very compelling on their own and yet the whole is still less than the sum of its parts. This movie is like if a high school student tried to write something like Magnolia. Fascinating how producer Q'Orianka Kilcher involved the community of New Orleans and the world in online casting, engaging budding filmmakers online in internat5ional competition to take raw footage and create Scene 64 that was entered into the movie. The technical crew was precision personified blowing up cars and flipping them in the tight intersection of the French Quarter, creating costumes and makeup and sets to seamlessly fit the characters & story line. Every actor and crew member brought their A-game, including Christopher Walken - I still don't know if he's CIA or not and his homeless buddy played by Jordan Prentice, Christian Slater as the good police force operative, Nicky Whelan as the bad op, Q'Orianka Kilcher as the courier looking for something more, Jesse Bradford a maybe hustler running from Anthony Anderson & Juvenile as local crime bosses, Moon Youngblood & Derek Richardson play soon-to-be-parents where he's caught in life & death choices, Kim Blacklock as The Bag called in to interrogate Navid Negahban's character - who we never know who he is - in the darkest moment of the film, Larry King as himself, and introducing Tione Johnson as perhaps the wisest as the little girl Few. The tight writing of the script didn't give any answers, just showed you what was happening from many converging perspectives in one day in the 9th Ward of NOLA. Genius cinematography by Reinhart Peschke, note-worthy first time feature film directing by Leone Marucci, experienced efficient go-to man in1st AD Matthew Wilson Ross, and phenomenal stunt coordinator in Lin Oeding.
