Kwon also sets up fantastic opportunities that he fails to take advantage of throughout. One huge shame is that the film washes away the gains it makes with the new gendered angle by making the two nuns ideologically void.

Hyeok-jae ultimately succeeds in making us invested in Dark Nuns’ denouement, even if he rehashes every single beat from The Priests. The reason why we’re compelled has to do with the rock-solid chemistry between Hye-kyo and Yeo-been.

We jumped right into a possession case, and it looked like the first team was in trouble and needed some serious help. Its the same old story, and the men can't see a woman's true worth simply because of her gender and at the folly of their ignorance. There is something to be said of the way in which the storytelling is done in Korean films, and especially when battling the forces of evil, their faith feels so powerful and absolute that it's palpable.

More than just a horror film, it explores deeper themes of gender, social and religious prejudices, and female solidarity. The performances are exceptional, with Song Hye Kyo standing out—her powerful and commanding yet nuanced portrayal adds emotional depth, making her character truly unforgettable.

Two lead carry the movie. Song Hye Kyo delivers a charismatic performance while Jeon Yeo Been an emotional one. Young boy is amazing too. It's a drama focuses on two women fighting with male dominated church system to save life rather than horror. Liked the little nod to Korean politics and them using shamanism to cater their greed.
