David Allen believed in this movie so much it out lived him. He won. Go to Full Review

As a fan of the classic serials myself, I had an absolute blast, and I hope genre fans embrace it, too. Go to Full Review

Primevals is perfect for someone who knows who Ray Harryhausen is, and can enjoy a movie for the sheer magic of stop motion. Go to Full Review

Though it's always nice to see that stop-motion hasn't been completely abandoned as an animation technique, and though it's heartening that Allen's associates and crowd-funding fans saw the film to completion, The Primevals plays like a basic cable movie. Go to Full Review

Oui L Aug 19 RIP to David Allen. You did your best man! I loved this! See more Nicholas B Jun 25 This heartfelt tribute to the spirit of the classic stopmotion horror/science fiction/high adventure films of bygone years works surprisingly well. Everything may be only a notch or two above competent, but with nice even pacing, (thanks to both a snappy script and the direction which takes its cues from the many films it lovingly imitates) this one moves with a real sense of adventure, intrigue and forward momentum. If you love the movies of Ray Harryhausen and Willis O'Brien then you'll appreciate this, at the very least. See more Patrick W Apr 27 Those looking to find a lost classic will be disappointed, but it’s worth watching if only to see how films have changed over the last 30 years, both for good and bad. Personally, I was hoping for more, especially after reading about how the film was abandoned due to lack of funding until finally being completed in 2023. Some good acting and an interesting concept, but it all comes across a bit half-baked. The stop motion is decent, but honestly, any of the Sinbad films or other Harryhausen (especially Jason and The Argonauts) make this look amateurish in comparison. See more Genesis 1 Apr 16 Excellent stop animation movie with a great plot..and great special effects..dates a little tricky..says 2023..but it was filmed in the 90s See more George M @Milkyway Apr 1 First saw mention of this as a cover story in Cinefantastique Magazine. Dave Allen! One of the stop motion masters to follow in the footsteps of Ray Harryhausen? Waited since 1978 to see the finished version. Waste of time. Other than some of the stop motion, the story is an insult to Dave's Memory. See more g j 12/15/2024 Was this really worth waiting 50 years for? I appreciate that there's a real pathos behind seeing this to completion, that does come through in a lot of aspects. It's a labour of love. But it's objectively really silly and I can't really see someone seeking it out and enjoying it on its own merits. I'm under the impression that most of the live action was filmed in the 1990's - but even this feels like a product of 20 years ago. See more Read all reviews
