Bella R @broblovesdog 5d I really enjoyed this documentary because it celebrated the life and important moments of Lusia Harris. She was a pioneer in women's basketball and paved the way for other women of color. This documentary was meaningful because it told the story of a woman who has been overlooked for far too long. Doing so showed how women athletes are often ignored, and their accomplishments are diminished. Women athletes also often face systemic oppressions despite being highly talented and achieving. Lusia’s achievements were empowering to learn about, and her resilience and passion revealed the importance of telling stories of those who are often pushed to the side. It left me feeling motivated to share her story and learn about other female athlete pioneers. "The Queen of Basketball" in question was revolutionary in many ways, especially for women of color, but it helped to put a very upbeat tone on her story and life. She wasn't just her story, and she wasn't there to change the world; she was simply doing what she loved, and it made an impact. See more Haley V @haleyvass3r 6d I found this documentary to be an interesting look into seeing how far women's sports as come and a very sweet way to honor Lusia Stewart. It's interesting to sit back and wonder what would've happened if Lusia had accepted her offer into the NBA, but I deeply admire Stewart for not focusing on the "what-if" and instead focusing on her family and improving herself. The film covers many topics from discrimination to mental health struggles, and while it is short, it covers everything perfectly without rushing or glossing over things. See more Beatrice M. @bea.mac.28 6d This film really caught my attention because I personally am a female athlete, and how hard it can be to perform with confidence while feeling like you're not good enough. I also found it so bizarre how I had never heard of Lusia Harris; she is this incredibly talented and personable woman. I really enjoyed every part of this film, and I think Lusia’s personality really shone through, making the film extra special. See more Camilla U @Camilla Dec 10 "The Queen of Basketball" followed "Lucy" Harris Stweart, a pioneer in women's basketball, winning her college three national titles. However, although she was drafted into the NBA, she chose not to go. They did a really good job making this film. It definitely empowers women to follow their dreams, whatever that may be. I loved the film and how they didn't immediately reveal her as the basketball player and allowed her to speak freely about herself. Seeing how proud she was and the uncertainties she faced in her life made the film so captivating. It made me question why women's sports aren't more popular. Her optimism and true passion for the game had me rooting for her the entire story. I would recommend the film, as I found it super inspirational and I found myself researching more on her even after the credits rolled. See more Read all reviews
