Grainne C Doesn't pull any punches about the grittyness and obsession needed to win a cycling race. A great at the end of his career being chewed up and spat out. I'm confused by the ending though, I couldn't make out if he wad cycling Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review gavan h As a former amateur cyclist and a volunteer at the 1998 TdF and seeing the finish in Phoenix Park and then travelling to Cork to watch the last km this film really speaks to my brain. I love the gritty realism of the professional cycling world at this time. Cycling was the instigator of drugs testing in sport. However, most other sports do not now live up to the ideals of amateur and professional cycling. A beautiful film, at times too steryotypical or trying to simply explain the cycling culture of 1998. But, I really appreciate the darkness of this film. Low budget but high ideals. Excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kevin Maher Times (UK) The script is undercooked and flits between formats (Is it a romance? A thriller? A sports movie?) without settling on one. Rated: 2/5 Dec 18, 2020 Full Review Ian Freer Empire Magazine There is some nice insight into cycling-team practices, but overall The Racer lacks sufficient nuance, specificity and originality to nab the yellow jersey. Rated: 2/5 Dec 17, 2020 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian What the film does very well is show how doping became so normalised. Rated: 3/5 Dec 16, 2020 Full Review Alan Zilberman Washington City Paper This is a sad film about the limits of the body and the rationalizations we can make when we sacrifice our integrity. Mar 2, 2021 Full Review Freda Cooper The People's Movies A morality tale/drama combo with intelligence and style and a muscular performance from Louis Talpe, it suffers from reflecting the distant central character's reluctance to engage. Rated: 3/5 Feb 10, 2021 Full Review Brian Lloyd entertainment.ie 'The Racer' makes no qualms about how brutal and how unglamorous the sport of cycling is. If anything, it revels in it.
