      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Red Sea Diving Resort makes uninspired use of actual events, using thinly written characters to tell a story derailed by its own good intentions.

robin e Another reason why I never read reviews here. Always think the opposite of what RT rates a movie. This was informative and well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Pongo K The history behind makes this movie well worth the time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Arkadiy T This is a great movie about saving Ethiopian-Jewish refugees from Sudan by the Israel. Based on the events of Israel's Operation Moses and Operation Joshua in 1984-1985. Chris Evans, Ben Kingsly, Greg Kenear. It is a spy thriller with healthy dosage of humor. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Andrew N Don't listen to the so-called "critics" of this film. I think Gideon Raff did a good job telling a difficult story of an unsavory topic about humanity and ethnic cleansing atrocities. Michael Kenneth Williams is a great actor in serious roles and he doesn't disappoint in this either, Nor does the talented Ben Kingsley. The versatile acting of Chris Evans and his team surprised me. Probably his best and most serious role bringing attention to the plight of Ethiopian Jews and their struggle to be free which I was completely unaware of not being Jewish or alive at the time. Decent film worth a watch and based on a true story too. Again, the critics got this rating completely wrong for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review R H Excellent movie about actual events. Great writing and acting. Amazing spy operation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review Peter B Riveting true events. While the movie is great, the book it's based on is even better. Mark Kennedy Associated Press A large part of the problem is the casting of Chris Evans as the leader of the Israeli spy ring that set up the hotel. He is most known for playing Captain America and seems not to have put aside his shield for this film. Rated: 0.5/4 Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba The Red Sea Diving Resort is staggering in its utter lack of self-awareness, a movie attempting (and failing) to be very righteous in its discussion of refugee rights and displaced peoples. Aug 2, 2019 Full Review Karen Han Polygon The focus turns the film into a quintessential white savior movie, making every person of color a prop to be saved rather than a developed character. Aug 1, 2019 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut When it comes to planning your weekend, make sure this new Netflix film is your last resort. Rated: 2/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Steven Allison The Playlist Raff saw an opportunity with this tale, took it, and didn't bother to do it justice. That's pretty much all there is to say. Rated: C- Jun 8, 2020 Full Review William Venegas La Nación (Costa Rica) Even though it's an action film, it errs on the side of having an academic style.
