Ming M 开头与08年奥运会开幕式的烟花脚步交织的画面很震撼,越往后给了科比越多的镜头,看到这些十几年前的画面让我有一种穿越感,潸然泪下。 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Jacob H I really loved this doc. I was in high school when the Redeem Team won the Gold and it was so fun getting that behind the scenes look at that team. It even sucked in my wife who wasn't all that stoked to watch it. It also did a great job reminding me of why I loved that generation of NBA players. Finally, really made me miss Kobe. Overall again, as a basketball fan, I really loved it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/23 Full Review john m It's basketball season, folks. So back in 2004, the U.S. basketball team was the favorite to win at the Olympics. Call it cockiness or complacency, but a careless approach to the tournament led to them only getting the bronze medal. This documentary is about the steps that went into making sure that didn't happen again in 2008. Now I have long been a fan of NBA basketball. The season just started, so I'm quite content to be watching games again. This caught my eye while browsing Netflix, so I figured what better way to mark the occasion than by watching a documentary of basketball from yesteryear. If you're a fan of the league, I think this is worth a look. Now this movie ended up taking me back in time because I got to see the referenced Jacksonville exhibition game back in 2004 in person. It's a memory that had remained dormant for many years, and I'm happy that it was stirred, despite Lebron getting benched by Larry Brown. Perhaps they had an inkling that this would be a documentary someday because they have loads of archive footage at their disposal. Yes, there is also modern interview footage, but they also had to pontificate how important the late Kobe Bryant was to this Olympic equation, and they have behind-the-scenes footage of him in spades. I like how candid these players are in their interviews; it's not like a post-game interview where you have to give a cordial canned response, these are players in a relaxed environment where they can let their guard down and speak naturally, which sometimes involves swearing. I thought that went a long way toward humanizing these athletes who usually get eclipsed by their stardom. As far as the movie goes, I think The Redeem Team is well-paced due to its quality editing. They held my attention from start to finish which is saying something because this is basically just a basketball history lesson, and one that I lived through and can actively recall at that. Most of the games play out like highlight reel recaps, but I suppose that is to be expected. There's not that much more to say. If you're a fan of the league, you should watch this, and if you're not, you should just keep scrolling (like I'm sure you would do anyway). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Kevin L Good overview of the team and it's time together in working towards the gold medal in '08. There's some historical context given, which was necessary but didn't overshadow in '08 team. The doc has some coverage of the previous teams back to '98 that had been beaten by intl. teams that continued to improve. Solid production values and video footage, along with interview from years later that had players talking about their experiences on the team and the Olympic games. 3.4 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/22 Full Review Ben C It's nicely made with good footage but ultimately, I can't work out why this movie has been made. How can you look at this period where basketball finally stopped being a one-country game and think that the interesting story is the one about the team with every advantage going their way, regaining their title? It's like producing a behind-the-scenes documentary about how Darth Vader and the dark side stuck it to those uppity rebels in the Empire Strikes Back. Or making a story about the heroic Soviet team taught the Jamaicans a thing or two about bobsleigh in 1988. It's impossible to get behind the story of a team bravely battling through the adversity of their own egos to deign to represent their country and put these upstarts back in their place. The arrogance displayed by the big stars towards the European players goes entirely unexamined and the viewer seems expected to support Kobe and friends as they plough through people who - let's face it - really have no right to be playing their game in the first place. There is a fascinating film to be had here. It's the one about how the NBA and the Dream Team created a world game. It's the story of how on earth Argentina won the gold, how Greece wins the worlds a couple of years later and how Spain almost did the same in Beijing. How fascinating would it be to have looked behind their scenes and to hear their stories? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/21/22 Full Review Jindy S If you love motivational and inspiring sports films in particular basketball. You'll love this! You can't help getting caught up in the hype.
