Gabriel S BJ Verot debuts into feature-length territory with the ultra-questionable The Return, a horror turned sci-fi horror that leaves holes like an AK-47. Geez, where to start? I guess from the beginning. The story follows Rodger Emmerlich who was the most brilliant idea of taking his current girlfriend and his ex into his newly inherited house where recently his father died of surprise heart attack. His initial idea is to just, I dunno, cope (?), but then he gets super annoyed as to why his dad died in the first place. And then some backstory mystery creeps in and eventually they all are super struggling with dealing with some haunting power trying to creep the s- out of them. Convoluted? Well, get used to, because this story is nuts to the cracks. If you think things can't get more complicated, buck your belt. And that is the problem with The Return for real: the potential is there but who is running the show is trying to do too many things—this film does not know what it wanted to be: a mystery, a sci-fi flick, a horror movie? It tries it all! When things get to the no-turning point, it messes with a concept that is either hit or miss. The Return misses big time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review Julz X The plot had promise however that awful actress playing Jordan the "Childhood friend" with terrible plastic surgery and an obvious sexual fixation with Roger the main character and genius who returns to gus childhood home is hard to watch. She is cringe in every scene. Atleast Roger and his girlfriend played by Sara Thompson who is much better and more natural looking than the cat lady who had too much face and cheek bone filler senses something isn't right when Roger starts sensing weird creepy vibes in the house his Sister and Mom died in. Cue creepy haunting demon images and scary low breathing with dark eyeless creatures and gaping maw mouthed terrors that engulf the house, one of these entities of evil was his Imaginary friend his psychologist he saw out of nowhere (conveniently) told him he had suppressed for years. So Once Rogers GF realizes there's more going on because plastic face won't stop until she gets her only crush and desire in this film back, she takes off, only to return two scenes later. The film could be better and needed a replacement for Jordan. Roger and the story was good. The twist was predictable but it wasnt awful. Like I said it needed better film work and a decent upgrade for Jordan. Not alot id explanation or follow through in B grade films either and this one is no exception. Spoiler Alert: Deaths occur. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Poppy M Loved this! Scary as & the plot was clever. The actors worked well together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the many rules of horror that I use to guide my everyday life is that if you get a house in a will, do not go back to your hometown to settle the estate. You will face the supernatural at best, die if you're lucky or end up in Hell if things go the way they usually do. Rodger is one of the people who didn't listen. He's come back home to settle the affairs of his recently deceased father. Soon, he's dealing with strange childhood memories about a ghost and those memories aren't going to stay remembrances for long. Roger also lost his mother and sister at a young age, so he's surprised when the diaries he finds show that he was in therapy to get over their loss. Yet he barely remembers things. And while his mother's equations and his father's videos guide him, there's also a twist coming that will change everything. BJ Verot broke into films doing stunts and when you think about it, isn't being a director the most daring stunt of all? Good news — he's survived the attempt and I look for him to jump through all sorts of flaming hoops in the future. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
