What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

The film starts off strong, with tense moments and some intrigue, but becomes bogged down by mindless, glossy, Netflix-ized action in its final stretch. Go to Full Review

This movie has a lot of problems...particularly with how slow it is. You get some decent performances from Damon and Affleck but most of the scenes felt empty. Go to Full Review

With a cast of this caliber, this should have been a stronger film. It felt dumbed down and like they held their punches. Go to Full Review

Peter K @Vacadoug 8h Well-acted but a little over-the-top! See more Patti G @RT678905342107 1d Very good twisty thriller. See more Mortal T @Kostas871 4d Solid action movie . The plot is very unique and I also love the fact that the movie took its time. Nothing was rushed. Other than 1 or 2 details that put me off slightly, it was engaging and enjoyable to the end. WATCH IT. See more Gareth V @geewah 6d A dirty cop crime thriller that doesn't reinvent the genre, but its mix of closed quarters tension, car chases and gunfire gets the job done. Affleck and Damon elevate what could've been routine Netflix fare into something genuinely watchable. See more Benjamin W @Code70 6d Liked this one a good bit more than I thought I would. Going in to it, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, I guess I thought it’d be fine, but since it’s a Netflix streaming movie, I couldn’t get terribly excited for it. But color me surprised. I guess objectively, it’s not WAY better than I thought it would be, and the Netflix-y slickness does sometimes hinder the experience, but overall, I thought this was a well-made, well-acted, decently tense little cop thriller. The action-heavy second half does contrast a bit with the more close-quarters, tight nature of the first, but I think it works well enough, and it feels earned as the tension escalates as the movie progresses. And the script was always a few steps ahead of me. Looking back, I probably should have seen it coming better, but I didn’t, and so the experience worked for me. Overall, I quite like this one. Nothing top tier, but for a straight-to-Netflix streaming release, it’s rather solid, I must say. See more David F @dfulmer 6d A standard Netflix thriller with some really good actors in it.
