Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

I'm a fan of both Damon and Affleck, and found the film engaging, yet parts of it were somewhat confusing to watch. I can recommend checking it out because their chemistry is always a treat to watch. Go to Full Review

A Netflix urban cop corruption thriller set in Miami that owes a lot more to the Den of Thieves movies than to either incarnation of Michael Mann’s Miami Vice. Go to Full Review

The Rip is a frustrating missed opportunity. It takes a golden premise and two of cinema’s best friends and buries them under a mountain of plot holes. Go to Full Review

Dan S. @Dawgzfan 6h Really liked this one. Chemistry between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck is fun to watch. Good story and has you guessing what's really happening the whole time. Worth a couple hours of your day. See more J @UtahRondo 12h I thought this was an interesting movie. I liked the way it moved throughout the film. I thought the action scenes were probably the weakest part of the movie, they felt a bit flat. But I enjoyed the overall plot and found it to be a fun watch. See more Pooran S @Pooran 15h A taut, tense, thrilling ride, The Rip,based on real life events, packs just enough punch to be a good one time watch. Led by 2 aging but still charismatic stars in Ben Affleck & Matt Damon, their real life friendship translates into just the right chemistry in this crooked cops caper ably supported by the rest of the cast including the beautiful, talented Sasha Calle . Watch it for it's situation & character based tension, it's moody nighttime setting , the location that feels claustrophobic adding to the drama . Enjoyed the fact that there are hardly 2 action set pieces & yet the movie manages to keep one on the edge with it's suspense. Well done to the Director Joe Carnahan. See more Jay C @Bishopsgyal 22h I absolutely loved it! I was tense the whole time. I didn't know who to trust. It had me at the edge of my seat. This is definitely a 4 Star must watch. Grab your popcorn and beverage of choice and enjoy. See more Robin H 1d Should be good with that cast, but it's all over the place. No one has clear motivations, the action/fight scenes come out of nowhere, and apparently the sun never shines in Miami. Also you know a bad writer when everyone says fuck twice in every sentence.
