The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Laverne Cox's fabulous portrayal of Frank N. Furter leads a strong ensemble effort, but the stars can't infuse this reimagining with enough energy, creativity, and quirk to make TRHPS: Let's Do the Time Warp Again a worthwhile endeavor.

Ana Valens Bitch Media Fox's Rocky Horror feels shallow. There isn't any drive to create a story for queer audiences that challenges the dynamics at play in the original storyline. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Judy Berman Elle Ortega's production is full of curious directorial choices like this. A few hit. Many miss. Jun 11, 2018 Full Review Charles Bramesco Rolling Stone A graduate of the High School Musical school of filmmaking (literally), Ortega is also the person responsible for many of the glaring problems here. Oct 21, 2016 Full Review Michael Cuby them. With a star-studded cast that also includes Adam Lambert, Christina Milian, and original star Tim Curry, it won’t take long for you to get up out of your seat to do the old familiar dance yourself. Nov 1, 2022 Full Review Karen Rought Hypable I applaud everyone for trying to recreate the strangely compelling story that was told with the original, but the remake seemed like a toned down version. Rated: 2/5 Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Emmet Asher-Perrin Tor.com A TV-14 rated version of Rocky Horror was bound to send up red flags no matter how you spun it. Jonathan M I loved this more than the original. It goes better with the times. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Tabitha B At least we got to see Tim Curry again. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Jason R Very disappointing. The movie lacked energy, was poorly cast and lost the magic of the original. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Jeremy C It's hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Victoria Justice did a good job. But this was not for me. There was some good moments, but all in all, I did not enjoy this version. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review chairmanof d If you are a true Rocky Horror Show fan, do yourself a favour and SKIP this re-telling. It does absolutely NOTHING to pay homage to The Rocky Horror Show stage show (1973) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and is instead a wasted opportunity to bring The Rocky Horror (Picture) Show to new audiences and makes true fans cringe. The ONLY saving grace is that Tim Curry stared as the Criminologist, at least paying some homage to Charles Gray and his excellent performance in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The musical score has been completely changed to suit the poor casting decisions making any of the songs sound dreadful, almost as if the production team simply recorded dogs and cats fighting. Laverne Cox simply destroyed Dr. Frank-N-Furter, making the character too "gay" completely going against Tim Curry's portrayal. The over use of modern day sexualisation ruins the atmospheric conditions that the original had. All in all, I would have much rather I had spent the time I wasted watching this pathetic excuse for "theatre" being ripped limb from limb by rabid guinea pigs!
