What unnecessary imprisonment does to families is often written about in abstract terms, but to see what it did to one specific family runs an emotional gamut that the patience of this heroically committed filmmaker does full justice to.

As a depiction of how a family overcomes a most unimaginable crisis, The Sentence is triumphant. As a call for criminal justice reform, it is powerful and convincing.

The Film Experience
The filmmaking quite rightly plays second fiddle through many of the more climactic sequences, but unfortunately for an audience that doesn't exactly make for great viewing.

The director does a great job telling the story of his sister! I watched the documentary 5 times and each time felt the injustice.

This is the outcome of the most corrupt "for profiit" prison system on earth. The US imprisons more people than any country on earth. The Trump administration has made the prison system even more corrupt. People like Mitch McConnel profit from our tax dollars by putting women like this in prison. This country sucks. I'm disgusted by this sad film, disgusted by this country, and wish I could leave. I hope the bastards in Washington who make this country the shit hole it is where the rich take from the poor, rot in hell. I hope Donald Trump and all those who cover for him die an early and miserable death. This is no longer the land of the free. There is no justice in america. This is the land where the rich enslave the helpless. I hate America. At least other corrupt countries don't pretend to be something they are not.

This one is a tear jerker! A documentary
about a mom who is sent to prison for dating a drug dealer
in her youth. It's a story of her family and her 3 young girls surviving
youth w a mom who is sentenced under a manditory
sentencing law that is unfair and unjust.

It underscores the complete craziness of manditory minimums. What's even worse is our worthless POS politicians that fail to fix a problem that they know exists. Every member of congress should be made to watch this, though it probably wouldn't do any good. Pathetic.
