On a star-filled night, widower and homeless man Thomas Jacobs (Michael Paré) finds shelter for the night when he stumbles across a vast two-story house with the lights on and an inviting open front door. He strolls in, thinking he just caught a lucky break, and it would appear for a while as though he did. Soon enough, Thomas realizes that the house won't let him leave, as all of its doors are locked and its windows cannot be opened or broken.

Noel Murray Los Angeles Times More B-movies could stand to be like "The Shelter," which at least tries to tie its darkness to something real. Nov 3, 2016 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed It's a film full of questions and not very many clear answers, but it's very worth seeing as it's a well-crafted directorial debut made by a small team on a small budget which makes the most of it by looking and sounding great. John S Me: Mom, can we have David Lynch remake Jacob's Ladder? Mom: We have Jacob's Ladder at home. Jacob's Ladder at home: Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was terrible... the acting, lighting and storyline was college level at best. Michael Pare' must have had fallen on tough times to have to star in a movie of this caliber. The most exciting thing about this flick is the illustration on the cover that makes you think you might not fall asleep trying to watch it. I rented this and The Girl On A Train and got yelled at by my girlfriend for renting 2 bad movies at the same time but the joke is on her! After watching this deplorable film The Girl On A Train is going to be well worth it I'm sure... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is a one man show and Michael Paré steps up and delivers a powerhouse performance as the down-and-out wanderer. His brooding is not so much of a man trying to absolve his sins, but of a person unaware that he can repent, living out the rest of his days in despair with almost no will to live. From his stumbling drunkenness to his explosive anger, Paré, gives one of his best performances of his long carrier. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Just finished #TheShelter, written and directed by John Fallon, and I have to give him major recognition for his first foray into feature directing. John, you crafted a truly great film that defies genre and had me from the very beginning. Michael Pare put everything into his role here, and you obviously did an incredible job directing him. The story is so hauntingly meditative in a man's grief of his own indiscretions...so introspective into Michael Pare's grief over the poor decisions he has made as a husband and soon to be father. The religious undertones caught me by surprise, but made for an even more impactful experience. I genuinely dug the slow burn of the story, and the payoff in the end was perfect. A true descent into the madness of a man by way of his own reflection. You did a great job Man, it was everything I had hoped for and then some. And I can't go without saying congratulations to Berge Garabedian for a fantastic first official JoBlo production. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Cameron M Though its left-to-interpretation story may not please everyone, thanks to John Fallons' direction The Shelter raises many thoughts about faith and redemption quite captivatingly and has a good cast lead by a compellingly Michael Paré.
