Edward R A great multi-angle look at just what we will do for money and/or for our family and how little empathy most people have for others. Quite the introspective film. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Dan R 2017's 'This Is Your Death' is a film which wants to encourage some deep and meaningful conversations but fails dramatically. SYNOPSIS: 'An unsettling look at reality T.V. where a disturbing hit game show has its contestants ending their lives for the public's enjoyment.' With a strong cast, an interesting and original premise, and Giancarlo Esposito taking on director and acting duties, this film should've been something special, if at worst an interesting watch. Unfortunately, it just falls down on the weight of expectation it puts on itself and on the subject matter. Whether it's Esposito's naivety and inexperience as a director which causes this to fail is questionable. Maybe it's just a bad film. The worst thing for me is that it looks so shoddy, like a TV movie. It has TV movie plastered all over it when it shouldn't have. It needed greater investment. 'This Is Your Death' is an interesting concept, but tonally it's totally mishandled and fails to deliver. The character Mason Washington was the only redeemable character. Maybe the producer chick. Maybe. And his family were a bunch of ungrateful assholes. The wife held him over the coals and threatened to leave him and take the kids cuz he was struggling to keep a roof over his head. He was demeaned, disrespected and insulted, even by his own family. Wow. Made me sick. And it also made me sick the unfair, unjust system that put him in that position. Josh Duhamel was pure evil. Total bullshiz artist. Total hypocrite. This movie was creepy as well, because all I can think is— THIS WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY. I think the critics and audience hated this one because it made them think that this could actually happen in our sick society.
