A smart homage to genre filmmaking, The Similars is a fun and frightening film that balances socio-political issues with aplomb.

Scott Marks San Diego Reader Most episodes of The Twilight Zone run 30 minutes, and there's barely enough material here to justify a feature, but Ezban makes it work. Rated: 3 Dec 1, 2016 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound a surreal assimilation of reality to fantasy, wearing its generic influences (sci-fi, noir, horror, pulp) on its face, while also weaving them into the very fabric of it story. It may be concerned with copying, but The Similars is a true original. Aug 18, 2016 Full Review Bill Stamets Chicago Reader This SF spoof eventually turns silly, but not in an interesting way. Apr 14, 2016 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh The best feature-length episode of The Twilight Zone you’ll see this year. Rated: 4/5 May 12, 2023 Full Review Howard Gorman NME (New Musical Express) Isaac Ezban's psychotropic sci-fi film's more bizarre plot devices poke all kinds of proverbial fun at the golden era greats the film is unabashedly aping, but the film's real draw is the characters' predicament ... Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Los Parecidos is a beautiful looking, paranoia laden Mystery/Sci-Fi cross over that feels almost like an old Twilight Zone episode made by a talented crew of cinema lovers with modern effects. HG H Not what I was excepting, but I was very interested in its presentation, the tension between the characters, and the unfolding of the plot. The script has a lot to be desired as it's the inspiration of the Twilight Zone confuses whether you should take it seriously or laugh at how ridiculous it is, as it feels like it's all over the place. Some twists will test people's limits on how much they're willing to accept. But to those looking for something different and fans of the OG TWILIGHT ZONE series, I will say this will be up your alley. For me, there are worst ways to spend 90 minutes. C+ Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I only seen this movie once, idk if I would watch it again. I don't know if I would reccomend this movie to others. I went with 2 stars for this movie as it just passed the time. I watched the preview of the movie, and it looked alright. I love the 60's/60's movies and this was kinda a tip of the hat to those movies. I did not mind that it was in black and white. I did like how it had a narrator and that it also remined me of a Twilight Zone episode. I saw that this movie has really good reviews, but i guess this movie was a hit or miss with me. Either you like this movie or you don't I guess. The stroy was alright, but with the whole thing of all the people turning into that one bearded guy, I was like come up. It was kinda foolish everybody was or turning into that guy. They thought that he was the devil and turns out it was all a young sick child doing it all. Idk not the best and not the worst just silly that they all turn into that one guy 2 stars. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Late R I can only assume that the team behind this Mexican horror/sci-fi film are big fans of TV series like ‘The Twilight Zone' and ‘The Outer Limits', because everything here seems purposefully designed to mimic one of the episodes – the cinematography, the production design, the bizarre story – all of it seems like it could have come straight out of the 50's-60's. As such, ‘The Similars' is a well-made homage complete with all the campiness that you would have expected from something of that era, but that's all it is. Because the makers constrained themselves so rigidly to that style, it ends up feeling dated and quite silly, not to mention that there isn't nearly enough material to warrant a 1 ½ hour run time. It's somewhat amusing, but I don't think it's going to be on anyone's Top Ten list. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/30/21 Full Review Audience Member Divertido humor involuntario, es un capítulo del chavo del ocho dirigido por Sam Raimi Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A movie highlighting the dangers of testosterone therapy for women.
