Being a journalist has never been as dangerous as it is today, in a world where the defense of truth is under attack from all sides. This film traces the saga of Julian Assange, a contemporary icon of the right to information, whose recent release from prison has reignited the global debate on press freedom. Thanks to privileged access to Wikileaks footage and archives and never-before-seen evidence, this documentary takes the form of a high-tech international thriller.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Dec 22
It’s not the definitive account of the Assange story -- that would require an interview with the man himself, something conspicuously absent here -- but it’s probably the closest we have to date. Go to Full Review
Philip De Semlyen Time Out Dec 20
4/5
Sure, it’s a somewhat honeyed portrait that lacks voices to put the other side across. But as the flimsiness of the case against Assange is laid bare, so too is a system that tried to suffocate, torture and crush him to protect its interests. Go to Full Review
Jonathan Romney Financial Times Dec 18

It may not include a huge amount that is unfamiliar, but it stands out in being comprehensive and up to date, tying up loose threads in the story while also following the odd new avenue that merits further exploration. Go to Full Review
Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Dec 22
4.5/5
This is a consistently interesting film and a good exercise in navigating historical narratives, even if it’s not exactly what its UK title might have viewers expecting. Go to Full Review
Nick Hasted The Arts Desk Dec 19
This is an otherwise sober story of state crime upon crime, leaving Assange just another pawn in their game. Go to Full Review
