What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Sky Is Everywhere never quite scales the heights of profundity to which it aspires, but star Grace Kaufman proves a perfect fit for director Josephine Decker's vision.

The Sky is Everywhere is most likely to enchant its Gen-Z target audience with its wildly romantic story set to a tinkling score, but its tenderness and authenticity can have a broader appeal. Go to Full Review

No director conveys too-muchness like Decker, and on top of that “The Sky Is Everywhere” is very lucky to have Kaufman in the lead. Go to Full Review

[The Sky is Everywhere] embraces excess as an expression of the heroine’s mercurial spirit. Sometimes the results are excessively excessive, blithely blissed-out or simply clichéd. Mostly, though, they’re funny, affecting and endearing. Go to Full Review

[Josephine Decker's] bold film grammar is innovative, in part, because Christian-Buddhism has never been taken seriously by a visual artist before. Go to Full Review

@swaggyqunt Aug 6 It would’ve been a good movie if it wasn’t based on the book. As a person who has read it multiple times and has memorised every character, chapter and plot twist I was expecting something much more than whatever this was. They changed the whole script and plot for god knows what reason. I honestly liked it but felt like if the stayed on the original plot things would’ve made much a difference and most likely would’ve been more popular. See more Julian Rex M @Julian_M Aug 1 Despite a few thoughtful performances from its slim cast, The Sky Is Everywhere is ultimately unable to juggle its many ambitions, resulting in an emotional mixed bag that struggles to balance the serious and silly elements of its script, though Josephine Decker's admiration for the source material is evident, and her verve for the surreal equally so. See more michael d 05/21/2024 The sky is everywhere The cinematography is aesthetically pleasing and well-done, from the camera twirls and zooms to the redwood trees that envelop most of the locations. Bereavement, coming to terms with loss and teenage angst as its central themes keep it emotionally charged, and are well portrayed by the protagonist (Grace Kaufman). Even though the plot may feel muddled sometimes, and the progression may seem stunted, it is a very enjoyable movie with important lessons to be learnt.
