Matt R Mar 11 "Up from the bowels of the earth come ... THE SLIME PEOPLE" Well, maybe the script did anyway. THE SLIME PEOPLE (1963) is only 1 hour and 16 minutes long but feels longer. It is definitely low budget B picture stuff but without the charm or eccentricities of ROBOT MONSTER (1953) and PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1959). Slime people emerge from the sewers under LA and put up a wall or dome over the city as they lay waste to human civilization. A local TV newsman, played by actor/director Robert Hutton, flies in. He meets up with a scientist and his two adult daughters as well as a soldier. They try to figure out how to escape. There is a lot of talk and stuff that doesn't make much sense. The production ran out of money after nine days of shooting. The Slime Creatures look impressive though and it is a shame they aren't better utilized. Supposedly half of the budget went into making their suits but the stuntmen inside were not paid. So I say watch it to honor their work and everybody else's who made THE SLIME PEOPLE. Just don't have any expectations for something amazing to emerge from all the fog. Anybody know who did the creature design and builds? They deserve some credit for being the ones behind the best part of this show. See more nick s 03/20/2024 Unfortunately no redeeming features in this low grade shlock. The acting was particularly hard to watch... like the staff of the local supermarket giving it a whirl. The storyline was the real horror story, and the chalkboard scratching exposition a total nightmare. See more 06/21/2021 There's so much fog in this movie, Lucio Fulci got jealous. So much fog that the Elizabeth Dane wrecked. So much fog… You get it, right? A bunch of lizard people emerge from under Los Angeles and use their fog machine to invade the city because, well, we nuked them out of their homes. Luckily, Tom Gregory (Robert Hutton, who also directed the movie) joins with a group of survivors to battle the slimy reptiles, who can't deal with salt or their own spears. Susan Hart — who would one day marry American-International Pictures president James H. Nicholson and appear in their beach movies — is one of the humans battling the mucky scaly heels. This entire movie was filmed in the studios of KTLA but ran out of money after nine days. The slime creatures cost most of the money and none of the stuntmen or Hutton got paid. There was also the wild thought to use small people as giant voles who would lead the invasion, but when they watched the footage, it was too silly to use. Just think of that, as this movie is one of the goofiest films ever made. I wish I could watch that footage. Hutton would go on to write Persecution, which was one of Lana Turner's last films. It's just as goofy — maybe more — than this one. See more 12/07/2015 The filmmakers do pull off a neat trick by telling us the whole backstory through archival footage of newscasts discovered at a TV station. Of course the fog helps to obscure any shortcomings that might have cropped up, but by the end of the movie it's very, very thick, and being in black and white anyway, the thick gray haze quickly grows annoying, as you suspect that any action that is being hidden isn't worth straining to see. And elementary math skills reveal that they could afford three Slime People suits, because that's the most you ever see on screen at one time. This does tend to dilute the concept of the Slime People as a world-conquering horde. See more 11/02/2015 Mystery Science Theater 3000 was right, this film really is a compost pile. It's one of the shitiest films i have ever seen yet, one of the most boring one too. The acting is horrible and there's a total lac of action and for most of the movie, you can't even see what's going on, there's too much artificial fog ! This movie really put me to sleep, even MST3K couldn't help. Boring piece of shit. See more 04/25/2015 Slime people from underground attempted to take over the world by lowering the temperature and killing innocent humans, the survivors must band together to stop them. The slime people look like people with scabs. If you think the plot is bad, try the acting. See more Read all reviews
