Hoping to harness the magical Smurf-essence, evil wizard Gargamel creates a pair of Smurflike creatures, called Naughties. Only a real Smurf can give Gargamel what he wants, so he kidnaps Smurfette to force her to cast a spell that will transform the Naughties into Smurfs. Papa, Clumsy and the rest of the Smurfs reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace to rescue Smurfette from the wizard's clutches.

In this obnoxiously peppy 3D sequel, "smurf" is an all-purpose prefix that the anaemic script uses when words fail. Which is often.

While the first film attempted to have a wider appeal, the sequel casts a smaller net... It simply feels as if filmmakers took a step backwards with this picture.

It's fairly run-of-the-mill in kid's film standards, and the screenwriters' lack of willingness to include anything even remotely edgy makes it difficult for adults to engage with it.

Well....I found it significantly more tolerable than the first one but that;s not saying much. I mean the bar was so low. Everything here I found to be still subar. There is less product placement, it doesn't feel AS obnoxious as the first one, there is no walk this way scenes, and the bad guy still looks cheap but not AS bad. There is a bit more focus on Smurfette and there is an attempt at a cohesive story and message of family here. But there is basically zero character development, the new characters ring hollow, and the humor is still just as bad at points. The setting is a bit more memorable maybe but it still boggles the mind why this isn't in the magic village. The humans are very forgettable and despite being more tolerable this is still a movie where Gleeson is a freakin duck at one point talking. Direction still isn't good here either. Skip this despite the improvements.

The Smurfs 2 was such a good sequel to 2011 the Smurfs and the Smurfs 2 have a good plot where it Smurfette it's birthday and she's upset over that everybody forgot about her birthday but she gets kidnapped by Vexy a naughty Smurf created by the evil wizard Gargamel who wants the formula that Papa Smurf used to make Smurfette blue and the part of the movie that killed me was the scene where Gargamel and Azriel are in a carriage and Azriel has a Facebook like who gives a cat a Facebook page in that line that Gargamel says put it on your Facebook and lick it that was such a callout
