Nell Minow Movie Mom The visuals are poorly conceived, with characters that are hardly more expressive than Weebles. The vocal performances are uninspired and uninvolving. Rated: C- Oct 14, 2013 Full Review Marsha McCreadie RogerEbert.com The message gets muddled with plot strands going every which way, though the real culprit is some awkward animation. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 11, 2013 Full Review Nick Schager Village Voice A Russian animated adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, Snow Queen proves both visually cruddy and narratively muddled. Oct 8, 2013 Full Review Sarah Brinks Battleship Pretension Overall I can't really recommend The Snow Queen to adults because I didn't really like it very much. That being said, I do not have kids but if I did they could do a lot worse then watch. Feb 23, 2021 Full Review Julian Lytle Punch Drunk Critics This movie is such a mess, and is clearly a cash grab because Frozen is coming out from Disney this winter. It's like when Transmorphers came out on DVD right when Bay's Transformers came out. Douglas M On a Saturday morning in the lead up to Xmas I put this on to watch with my four year old daughter expecting the usual straight to T.V affair but I was pleasantly surprised. The computer animation is not as polished as some of the obvious studios but there's some incredible settings along the way and there's non-stop excitement as our heroes go from one adventure to the next. A lovely surprise and well worth your time if you have younger kids. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Audience Member 1957 is a classic 2012 modern elements As long as you know how to appreciate This movie is definitely a good movie First of all, you can't criticize this movie with Disney's ideas Believe me. I am a person who understands art Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I like how it has an original soundtrack and good actors and good quality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Even though it was released a year before Disney's Frozen, it is still considered a rip-off of Frozen, and its plot is boring, its CGI is not at its best, and the voice acting is annoying. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review leio d 0% By Critics? That's bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This would be Wizart's first ever film to be created by much inexperienced artists, with an insanely small budget. What these creators were able to create with these things going against them is actually quite impressive. Despite coming out first, this film will always sit in the shadow of its Disney rival constantly being compared to it. However, I must be honest.... I actually kind of enjoyed this The Snow Queen just a bit more that I did Frozen. Despite the visuals being a bit stiff and the editing needing some refinement (especially in traditions), I felt that the overall movie was doing exactly what the film needed to be doing. This adaptation of The Snow Queen follows much closer to it's source material that Disney did, and I must emphasize that having the menacing blue ice queen was rather comforting with the conflict being the point of the film: The Snow Queen. The characters were the most important aspect of this film. First you had your lead heroine, Gerda, a courageous yet niive girl who ventures to rescue her lost brother. Then you had what would be her companion, Orm, a troll who served as the snow queen's minion who after joining up and adventuring with Gerda learns that he was on the wrong side and ends up helping Gerda on her journey. These two make a great pair as each works off of each other and developing their respective character arcs. On a visual level, much of the film offered pleasing backgrounds and lighting and textures that made this film feel on equal levels as films that had twice its budget. Again, the film's problems could just be simplified into one word: inexperience. When you think about Pixar, they didn't just create a studio and start making Toy Story right away. Instead they spent a lot of time practicing on shorts until they felt confident to try their hand at a feature length film. Wizart just dove right in... This is the first film showcasing a very potential studio that would ultimately use this experience to grow and exponentially fast in the years to come.
