Desperate to find a wife, Shawn goes on one awkward date after another until he meets Violet. Despite a film that trades in cliches, embraces archetypes and is unapologetic in its exploitation of genre tropes, The Sound of Violet is a rom com which punches above its weight and includes a call to arms on an important contemporary issue.

Sappy and preachy to a fault, the melodrama The Sound of Violet pushes the sexist message that a woman who’s a sex worker can’t be happy unless she’s rescued by a man with enough money to take care of her. The Sound of Violet is completely tone-deaf.

I read the book and loved the movie. I appreciated how it showed a new perspective on the struggles of dating and finding the perfect mate for everyone. Understanding how people face different challenges in their lives. It's a sweet and serious love story.

I liked the chemistry between the two leads. It a lot of heart. A bit farfetched in the storyline with the grandma accepting the grand daughter in law with her past. Also her seeming to like the doorman. All in all I thought it was a enjoyable film to pass the time.
