Ellen Gray Philadelphia Inquirer [Morgan's] formula, which juxtaposes larger-than-life real people at key moments in their careers, strains a little under the weight of the Clinton presidency and its baggage. Yet it's always interesting to catch a glimpse of America as others see us. Sep 9, 2020 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club The core of the movie is very strong. The piece is built around three performances that somehow grow from being mere impersonations and become something real and moving. Sep 9, 2020 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe It's a pat view of history, of course... [But] The Special Relationship works well enough despite having been reduced and shaped. It's a miniature portrait of how political bonds can be created, and tested, and broken. Sep 9, 2020 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Most kids probably won't be interested thanks to the talky nature of it, but fans of good docudramas and political buffs will definitely find it worth watching. Rated: 4/5 Sep 9, 2020 Full Review Simon Miraudo Quickflix The Special Relationship does indeed focus on a friendship between two (admittedly powerful) dudes, but this is more than a mere episode of Entourage. For one thing, stuff happens. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 21, 2010 Full Review Matthew Toomey ABC Radio (Australia) [The] glimpse of the real Blair was far more interesting than the clichéd version we saw throughout the film. coco j surprisingly entertaining Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Ethan T The Special Relationship masterfully achieves what all political biopics should without the bells and whistles of superior, larger-scale films. Michael Sheen as Blair does superbly well and and every single role is extremely believable. McCrory is also very good, and Quaid too. Admittedly, A Special Relationship clearly stretches the truth in some ends and it is a bit difficult to see certain conversations passing the way represented in the film. Despite this, a fairly humdrum premise is turned up to 11 by good casting and attention to detail in scripting and performances. Quaid's Clinton won't be to everyone's tastes and certainly doesn't cover the real man in glory, but particularly Sheen really could do with a bit more praise in some circles. The feeling of reality rooted in the film originates from a fairly balanced view of characters and their roles in events, despite perhaps leaning towards portraying Blair more positively than anyone. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/21 Full Review steve d Extremely well mad biopic with fantastic performances. Truthful, and sad given what came next. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Unintentional humor at a pleasantly appropriate outer rate and requesting little further credibility without routinely disrupting the crafted flow aside, this essential political drama unveils the titular apparently complicated association in an arresting light from thought-provoking depth to the peaked performances of the main pairs' chemistries. (B+) (Full review TBD) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Titularly a term first used by Winston Churchill to refer to the close British-American alliances, this bro-mance chronicles most intriguingly the strategic and conditional political friendship of Bill Clinton and Tony Blair between the years of 1997 and 2001 with mentions of their heated disagreement over the Kosovo War and a scandal involving an intern with a stained dress. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent movie and acting starring Michael Sheen as Tony Blair and Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton focusing on the special relationship between Prime Minister and President cementing the strength between Britain and United States Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
