The Spy Who Dumped Me

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Spy Who Dumped Me isn't the funniest or most inventive spy comedy, but Kate McKinnon remains as compulsively watchable as ever.

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader [Kate McKinnon's] performance is a bunch of disconnected comic riffs in search of a character. Mar 4, 2020 Full Review Anna Leszkiewicz New Statesman Fans of action blockbusters might pass up what seems a light-hearted comedy - but they'd miss out. This film's action sequences are every inch as bloody and bonkers as those of their male-fronted counterparts. Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Oliver Jones Observer The Bourne Identity becomes somewhat essential late summer viewing for one reason and one reason alone: Kate McKinnon. Rated: 3/4 Aug 29, 2018 Full Review Brittany Patrice Witherspoon Pop Culture Reviews In the end, The Spy Who Dumped Me is an amusing and thrilling comedy with frequent jokes that land and action sequences that soar beyond expectations. Rated: 3/5 Jul 11, 2024 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) You get wild action set pieces, funny verbal comedy, great costume design, and a trip through Europe. What a bargain! Feb 12, 2024 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Not dark enough to be a dark comedy, not funny enough to be a full on comedy, not romantic enough to be a rom com and certainly not thrilling enough to give 007 a run for this money. Brielle s One of my personal favourites. It’s such a good mix of comedy and thriller. I love how well though out the plot is. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Abby S I have seen this movie multiple times and think it’s hilarious, smart, and warm-hearted. It has this off-the-wall/odd-ball humor which I love — and Mila and Kate are perfect. Not sure why it’s so underrated! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Timothy D Thanks to a likable cast, The Spy Who Dumped Me is enjoyable, even if it is forgettable. The fast paced action commedy (mixed with a touch of romance) is cheesy but still fun. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Dave D Checked All The Boxes for entertainment! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review John McKinnon is very funny. Well paced. Kunis et. al. Slick looking. Entertaining. I liked it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review Diana M Audrey and Morgan are best friends and roommates living in Los Angeles. It is Audrey's 30th birthday and her boyfriend Drew breaks up with her by text. So she and Morgan decide to burn all of Drew's things. But when a secret agent shows up, Audrey discovers that Drew really works for the CIA and has gone missing. Without notice Drew comes back for his fantasy football trophy, And he makes Audrey promise to take the trophy to a cafe in Vienna and give it to his contact.... but a team of deadly assassins has followed Drew and they start shooting. Audrey and Morgan barely escape, but not Drew. With their lives threatened, Morgan convinces Audrey that they must deliver that trophy. "Do you want to die having never been to Europe or do you want to go to Europe and die having been to Europe" - Morgan Now they have entered into a international conspiracy that threatens the world... And in Europe everything goes sideways, they are chased, shot at, interrogted, threatened and even tortured. (Ivanna Sakhno is so evil-cool as the Russian assassin) "Why is this happening?" - Audrey "Because you dated a spy" - Morgan This spy film is so much fun. It is a action packed roller coaster ride. There is a lot of comedy but it is done so seriously and does not come across as silly or dorky. Sam Heughan is a really cool secret agent, looking very much like James Bond. Oh and Gillian Anderson is Awesome as the head of MI6. ...... "That is the Beyonce of the government" - Morgan Wow! What a really fun popcorn movie! Cast: Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Sam Heughan, Gillian Anderson, Justin Theroux, Jane Curtin, Ivanna Sakhno Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
