Post-Shaft, Gordon Parks knows how to get the best in local colour out of the Brooklyn setting, and even if there’s a lingering feeling that the truth behind this story isn’t on show, The Super Cops is an arresting experience for crime-movie aficionados.

Good fun action comedy. Both leads go all in on the craziness. The outrageous wacky comedy is contrasted nicely with the urban slum reality of 1970s New York.

Horribly miscast film. Ron Liebman overacts and David Selby under-delivers. Film is based on real-life cops who appear in a couple of scenes and they deliver better performances than the pros. Fortunately, legendary artist Gordon Parks directs.

This zany crime flick (oddly based on a true story) is not only super fun, but super influential to others in the genre. We wouldn't have our Untouchables or 21 Jumpstreets without the Super Cops.
