      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Switch has an interesting premise and a charming cast; unfortunately, it also has a trite script that hews too close to tired rom-com formulas.

Melissa F I find it quite funny.. it's heart warming, silly, I'm laughing out loud all by myself. A pleasant surprise! She just told him she's might move in w the Viking… hope it's a good ending. Happiest ever after. I'm a hopeless romantic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Kevin K Skip this forgettable movie based on a short story with a different title, and go read The Switch by Elmore Leonard. Not one single word wasted. You can thank me later Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Yoosik Ethan O I watch this habitually when it comes on TV and I like it. Not a lot of comedy in this rom com but it's worth it with Jason Bateman in the lead. His Everyman persona is just good enough reason to watch movies like this. Great cast and chemistry, particularly with Bateman and the young boy. Very pleasant watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Jennifer Tehani S Not sure about all the negative reviews on here, but Jason Bateman was a revelation in this film. The chemistry between him and Aniston was charming. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was 4 stars, but Jeff Goldblum made this already feel-good film hilariously wonderful. 5 stars. Great cast & fun film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Michelle R This was a great comedy with leads that are worth the watch. Richard Brody New Yorker Rises above its contrived conceit thanks to carefully calibrated performances and coherent use of New York locations. Mar 21, 2022 Full Review Chris Cabin Slant Magazine Despite a strong cast and technical specs, The Switch remains another easily disposable entertainment built out of the rubble of a promising literary prospect. Apr 1, 2011 Full Review Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald You have to overlook a whole lot of guff in order to enjoy the slight but pleasurable entertainment of The Switch. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Jason Bateman makes the experience worthwhile with a humorous, even three-dimensional performance with a surprisingly dramatic undercurrent. Rated: 3/4 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) The Switch does not aspire to the romantic comedy genre, but Aniston and Bateman have nice chemistry... pleasant insignificance.
