Jasmine Blu TV Fanatic The Thing About Harry got so many things right. It was in the unique position of trying to live up to the high expectations of being one of Freeform's first queer rom-com's while also being a classic story like everything else. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Mekeisha Madden Toby TV Guide Thankfully, The Thing About Harry gets more right than it gets wrong and will give romantics the weekend fodder they need to laugh, cry, and root for Sam and Harry on the road to love. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix This made-for-TV movie isn't going to win any Emmys, but it's a hilarious and sometimes emotionally touching ride that should please fans of romantic comedies. Jul 14, 2020 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Sweet characters, some sex in cheesy-cute LGBTQ rom-com. Rated: 3/5 Mar 5, 2020 Full Review William Bibbiani Critically Acclaimed Podcast Overall, it gives me everything I want from a romantic comedy. Feb 19, 2020 Full Review Charlie Mason TV Line The script, co-written by director and co-star Peter Paige, goes down as easily as a box of chocolates. Christopher B Great love story! Lots of tears of joy. Highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Corey J not the best but still okay. I personally hated the editing, it felt like someone had just found the fancy transition and text stuff and went absolutely haywire. on top of that I felt like all the scenes were to short, I was always left feeling like i had missed half the scene. the ending reminded me of a really short wattpad epilogue. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Always A C This movie never found its footing. The leads had no chemistry, and the central conflict in their storyline just didn't feel believable. Some of the moments between them were sweet, others were quite awkward. I think for gay rom coms, we're so happy to just have representation, we have low standards, but we deserve better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/23 Full Review Robert C Ok, so this isn't high art. But as a gay rom com, it pretty much everything I could hope for. It's cheesy, but the leads are great and it can be clever and charming at point. The soundtrack and the art direction is better than you'd expect. The main character is hopeless emotionally dumb and there are bunch of miscommunications, standard rom com tropes. Boy is this like crack to me, they could make a hallmark series out of this with slight variations and I'd eat it up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review Thom H The only reason the main character gets away with being such a mean, self-centered "friend" is that he's played by the writer and director of this movie. Who in their right mind would fall in love with someone so emotionally clueless and casually cruel? The ending is unearned; the wrong person apologized. :( Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Henry Bagnall As one of the first LGBT rom com representations, I can safely say it's set the bar so high for any following movies. Everything about it is amazing! The character growth was absolutely astonishing, and watching through the eyes of Sam as his relationship with Harry unfolds throughout the years is just perfect. And the ending is just the cherry on the cake. To see them both married with a baby is just such an awww moment. By far my favourite LGBT movie ever!!!!
