It's a solid movie. Not the best I've ever seen, but not the worst. Queen Latifa was solid. Wonderful, warm, compassionate. The kids (the two child actors) were very convincable. They both had very complex characters and I thought the did well. Dennis Quaid just can't pull off a bad guy. He flashes that smile and it's over. I struggled to believe he was a dirt bag. But the movie, overall, was very entertaining. I think it might be hard to enjoy if you're incapable of empathy, because the children are dealing with VERY hard topics. I think anyone capable of relating to kids will appreciate the film.

We thought a movie with Dennis Quaid and Queen Latifah would be a sure bet, but their talents were wasted. The movie lacked direction and dragged for the most part. The three children in attendance were in and of the theater during the movie. Obviously, the movie failed to hold their attention (as well as ours). What started out as having potential turned turned into the hope that it would end soon so we could go home.

So for a very simplistic movie it was very good and wholesome. I wish they hadnt left an open end with the teacher and school but for the moral of the story being what it was I was happy and my daughter (6) enjoyed it as well.
