Critics Consensus

No need to tune into The Titan -- bland and uninspired, this sodden sci-fi romance re-hashes other stories of super-soldiers gone wrong.

Andrew Whalen Newsweek The body horror genre thrives on disgust, shame and goo, all qualities lacking in The Titan. May 23, 2018 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) Avatar's Sam Worthington is at his most charmless, seemingly channelling a slightly aggressive sirloin as he plays the dead-eyed ex-marine Rick Janssen... Rated: 2/5 Apr 13, 2018 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Metro Newspaper (UK) This hokey sci-fi won't exactly transport you to another place but it is oddly diverting if you're in guilty-pleasure mode Rated: 2/5 Apr 12, 2018 Full Review Lonita Cook KCTV5 News at 9 A well paced, emotional ride. Sep 15, 2021 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming There is an intriguing idea at the heart of The Titan, but with an underwhelming screenplay and direction, none of this potential is able to surface. Rated: 2/5 Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Carlos Frigo Cultured Vultures The Titan sets up a surprisingly solid, anxious story about the dangers and possibilities of scientific experimentation and space travel, but drops most of its intellect as it closes, making for a mixed bag of a film sadly concluding in disappointment. Matthew P Bad movie. I crunched the moment TOM WILKINSON appeared on screen. Can we please kill his acting career already? You KNOW the moment he shows up, he’s the bad guy. Whether he be an outright villain or the guy with no morals, or the unethical guy, or the stupendously greedy guy, whatever it is, it makes any movie with him in it completely predictable. Of course, this waste of time movie was no exception. It’s just fantastic (said with deep sarcasm) when you’re only a few minutes into a movie and you know right away which character’s motivations, thoughts, speech, and actions not to trust for the rest of the film. Seriously, Tom Wilkinson, if you ever happen to see this, stop acting in movies and go back to stage…or something. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Austin D “The plot” “it’s so bad” “ugh.”. The movie is a cool watch and very entertaining. Is it interstellar? No. Is it avatar? No. And if you’re expecting that - I don’t know what to tell you. Movie had me roped in during the second half. Everyone thinks they are a film expert these days, and in reality, people just need to go back to enjoying unique movies, instead of always complaint about “the plot”, Especially when it’s pretty straight forward. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/10/25 Full Review Gherman D I feel they used Sam to try and create something like Avatar no doubt about it but I enjoy this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review David T Tragic disappointment-way way out there and not even viable as a Movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/25 Full Review Kip P Started off slow but promising. As he changed, it started to jump in progress...like going under a single surgical procedure as a complete human and, within minutes, coming out of the surgery as a totally different being altogether with different skin, abilities, and absolutely nothing that liked like him originally. Then, somehow, he lost the ability to speak...or mouth words...or use his hands to communicate...like, wth happened? The writers get replaced and the new writers didn't know what happened prior to the surgery and didn't know he was human?! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Amanda G It started so well, but then once they made the perfect evolution... they sent them home, erm did the writers forget that they'd created beings that couldn't live in our atmosphere?
