Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Watching its roster of decent actors struggling to overcome the banalities of their roles makes the price of getting through The Tollbooth very high indeed. Feb 24, 2006 Full Review Lou Lumenick New York Post Plays like the unholy spawn of Brighton Beach Memoirs and Fiddler on the Roof. Rated: 1/4 Feb 3, 2006 Full Review Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News Sokoloff works hard to make her aspiring artist likable, and buried deep under the mountain of clichs is a decent story of a young Brooklyn woman trying to find her own way. But to have to swallow such ham-fisted writing and direction? Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 3, 2006 Full Review Laura Kelly South Florida Sun-Sentinel Women may recognize with shivers the struggles of twentysomething Sarabeth in The Tollbooth. And that's a bad thing. Audience Member a surprise for me; a good "coming of age" movie; thankfully the end was done the way it was or i would have been quite upset; she chose well; bravo Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Really bad...Like...really bad. Maybe the worst dialogue all year. Idina's in it. But, yeah...bad... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a really awesome movie for me to watch. I cried when the father said, "Tell God your plans and he just laughs at you." That sentence really hit me. I've been planning things all my life...and for what? God already has a plan for me...I cried cause I don't even know what his plans are for me! (I am pretty sure that's why I am stuck and why I feel so confused about my life right now. I am trying to figure out what the heck I was meant for...and what I am supposed to be doing? That's why it was a good movie for me. God even talked to me in a movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a reasonably good story about an artist and her hard to get along with Jewish family. I wasn't a fan of the ending, but the movie overall is enjoyable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member i was afraid this was going to be another crappy, low budget film but i was pleasantly surprised.. and the acting was decent too. the religious aspect got to me a little bit in some parts, but then again i'm not jewish, nor do i like religion being forced down my throat. the dad reminded me of the dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. and i admit, i rented it just to see IDINA.. honestly though, her part wasn't even that big and i still enjoyed the movie; there's a good story to it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Lack of perspective and shaky comic tone plague Tollbooth -- Debra Kirschner's DV-shot saga of a Brooklyn Jewish girl trying to make it in Manhattan as an artist -- sinking it in a morass of whiny cliches.
