David Ansen Newsweek The tone of this droll, thrillingly odd animated film isn't easy to describe...A tad dark for little kids, this one-of-a-kind movie delivers 80 minutes of idiosyncratic inspiration. Mar 12, 2018 Full Review Ben Nuckols Associated Press A wonderfully weird bit of French animation that amounts to little but a celebration of its creator's bountiful imagination, yet manages to enthrall because writer-director Sylvain Chomet is such a solid visual storyteller. Jan 18, 2018 Full Review Empire Magazine It occasionally suffers from longeurs, but it's moving and funny with moments of genius. More of the same, s'il vous plat. Rated: 4/5 Feb 16, 2012 Full Review Mat Brunet AniMat's Review (YouTube) Animated films that don’t depend on dialogue are rare to find nowadays. But when they do show up, they can deliver something amazing, and this movie is a shining example of that. Rated: 9/10 May 10, 2024 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia An entertaining, witty, dark animated film, full of quirky characters and very subtle social commentary. Jhosep G The conflict in this movie comes out of nowhere, just as the solution of it. There's nothing that links the beginning to the end, and just no way you get to care for the characters. This is really the kind of movie I think people said they liked just because everybody said so. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Matt B An amazing simplistic animated style, but a truly clever story line. You will enjoy this French gem!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Jarrod R This one needs to be experienced without clouding your judgement in any way. I will say it is like nothing I've ever experienced before. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/23 Full Review Mag I watched this film a bit ago, but got to see it and refresh my memory of it recently. This film is without a doubt a great movie, and is able to prove so with its great usage of music and visual storytelling. There are little to no written dialogues in the movie (save some lines that are improvised by the voice actors and singing), but it is still able to masterfully show the viewer the flow of events and set the emotions of the characters. Characters in the movie have extremely exaggerated features, which often convey their personalities and set of emotions. similar to the characters, the visual comedy of the film is usually represented in exaggerated events. The animation in Triplets of Belleville is amazingly done, with a mix of 2D drawings that aim to replicate the strokes found in pen&ink drawings. It incorporates 3D animation in some aspects and closely replicates the artistic style found in the 2D animation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 22 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/02/23 Full Review Kyle M A visual flair for the medium driven by caricatures in cold, amusing motion ideally charms and surprisingly remains engaging under artistical strike to signify its compellingly ranked uniqueness, even if it doesn't please casual seekers finding themselves weirded out over the unnatural beings.
