Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle The Tunnel may be shrouded in blistering embers and fumes, but it never loses sight of the victims and helpers, of whom there are many. Rated: 3/5 Apr 9, 2021 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times [A] formulaic, but sufficiently diverting thriller... Apr 8, 2021 Full Review Mark Hanson Slant Magazine The film lacks for the methodically escalating stakes that makes the best examples of the genre so entertaining. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 4, 2021 Full Review Jessica Scott Nightmarish Conjurings The Tunnel starts out strong, sticking to the disaster film formula with style and efficient characterization. It stumbles midway through, however, falling victim to pacing issues and mawkishness that undermine the promise of the first half. Dec 22, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies By highlighting the heroism and keeping things focused on the people rather than the spectacle, “The Tunnel” gives its audience something authentic to latch onto and root for. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Jayne Nelson Radio Times The film's pace ramps up and you'll be almost as sweaty-palmed and panicked as the poor folks trapped in the tunnel. Robert K While I am not formally trained as a fireman or rescurer, I have enough military training to see so many inacuracies, in other words things that a trained rescuer would know what and what not to do, through both training and just plain common sense, that by the end of the movie I just lost total interest. Chuck this movie up to yet another foreign director trying to make an action movie using the same old disaster cliches Hollywood used 20 years ago. Next time, Mr director, spend a few extra dollars on a consultant to make things more technically accurate so the more intelligent people out here might find your movie actually enjoyable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/23 Full Review Patrick S Another good Nordic disaster movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review isla s At first I wasn't especially interested in this film - its not exactly choc filled with explosions and other visual effects to keep you gripped to the screen but the characters are pretty well developed and the story is put across in such a way, with various peoples different backgrounds put into play, that as a viewer your still intrigued enough to keep watching, to see what the outcome is. I liked that there are some statistics at the start, which makes you realise that such things can and do happen, if only on ocassion, in such tunnel type locations. I thought the cast did a decent job and by the end of the film, I was almost surprised how curious/anxious I was. It did feel pretty realistic and that makes it more intriguing. It won't appeal to everyone but I thought this film was pretty good, if unremarkable, its worth a watch overall, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Bill F Truly awful film! Terrible dialogue, annoying characters, amateurish acting and totally unconvincing set pieces all add up to a most irritating experience. You will find by around half way through (if you last that long), that you just want it to end. Avoid! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/26/22 Full Review Audience Member It's weird how Norway have specifically designed their road tunnel systems to allow disaster films to happen. Like who thought those designs were a good idea? This film had promise with the beautiful, snowy Norwegian landscapes and claustrophobic tunnel setting but unfortunately it's just incredibly dull. Looks like Daylight will continue to reign supreme in the niche tunnel-based disaster genre. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
