Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The Unheard achieves so much in its first hour and then torches it near the end. Rated: 2/5 Apr 5, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Watson’s fine performance and Brown’s thoughtful stylish touches (especially in the sound design) make the slice-of-life scenes special. The rest of the picture is more sketched-in. Apr 1, 2023 Full Review Monica Castillo RogerEbert.com “The Unheard” has its shining moments, but they are not enough to cover for some glaring missteps. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 31, 2023 Full Review Mary Beth McAndrews Dread Central The Unheard is a hypnotic cinematic experience best experienced in the pitch black with sound-canceling headphones. Rated: 3/5 Apr 10, 2023 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media There are so many redundant scenes of Chloe hearing static-y auditory hallucinations, the viewer can be forgiven for shouting, "OK, we get it already!" Rated: 2/5 Apr 5, 2023 Full Review Jon Mendelsohn CBR The Unheard contains many elements that should make it work, but the film ends up being an extremely slow and tedious supernatural thriller. Jerod S She's got new stem cells trying to grow her inner ear back into working condition. While cleaning up her childhood home, there's also a killer on the loose. You think it's gonna go supernatural, but it doesn't. And it takes forever to get there. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/16/23 Full Review Rebekah P Overlong with a sort of randomly abrupt ending. Had it been edited and relied less on janky old VHS tape visuals and toned down the tinnitus, it would have been good. It wasn't bad, and I get the aesthetic, but it just didn't quite work. Nor do we get enough time with side characters. And why the devil didn't she call her dad and tell him to come, like, POST HASTE. Also, wtf happened to her doctor? There were quite a few things that the audience needed to spend time with, but we weren't allowed to. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/26/23 Full Review miyah m Hated this movie very boring & not so put together Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review Gunn W "Unheard" should have remained "Unseen" too! Young lady travels back to her childhood home, out in the middle of nowhere, to participate in a study to give her hearing back which she lost as a child (you know, the country, where all the best Medical research takes place). This is also where her Mother went missing the same time she lost her hearing. Somebody's killing people in this little town - but somehow no one can find out who it is? No Sherlock Holmes needed here. It's the exact person you think it is the entire time! Her missing mother is talking to her through the TV, now that she can hear, and it still takes another hour to figure out who was responsible. SKIP IT! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Elaine K I really wanted to like this film, it was a fresh concept to me, but to call it slow burn would be an understatement. Watson has some talent, but I found myself bored with her very quickly. Such a shame that the killer was obvious from minute one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/23 Full Review Brad S Edge of your seat suspense. Great lead acting by Lachlan Watson! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
