I loved the movie, even though I had to read the English subtitles. This is one of the rare movies I've already watched three times. The movie blends a little bit of martial arts action and lots of rural comedy into an offbeat comedy-drama set in early 20th century China. Both nonsensically silly and surprisingly dark, the film gathers a cast of serious but whimsical characters intro a collection of individual plots woven into a complex story enhanced by background music that perfectly sets the mood for an entertaining look at a country folk community. Currently available on Amazon Prime, but I am currently seeking to buy the DVD. Seven thumbs up!
