Audience Member Barry Sullivan is trying to win a lucrative government contract to save his business and needs to convince government rep Tom Selleck to play ball. He first tries to bribe him, and when that fails turns to blackmail. He ends up learning a secret about his wife (Carol Lynley) that decidedly turns the tables on him. An interesting idea for a film that's really poorly executed. The central conceit is that the bulk of the film is a surveillance film Sullivan has hired a PI to shoot for him to use against Selleck. The framing device has Sullivan sitting in his office watching it unveil. The conceit doesn't really work not only because the film has pans, zooms and changes of angle that pretty clearly reveal it as not being shot from the static camera depicted in the framing story, but also because the film contains too much material that Sullivan would clearly not want filmed ... including him trying to bribe Selleck! Overall, the film has some good performances from Sullivan and Selleck (but not Lynley who is wooden beyond belief) that are let down by a confusing script and dull, static staging.
