Critics Consensus

The Week Of suggests promise in further collaborations between Sandler and Robert Smigel, but its shopworn premise and listless execution aren't enough to recommend it.

Glenn Kenny New York Times How bad could it be? Well, as the popular "Mad Men" meme goes, it's "Not great, Bob!" Aug 3, 2018 Full Review Rafer Guzman Newsday There's no way audiences would pay to see The Week Of at a theater. Even streaming it might feel like a rip-off. Rated: 0.5/4 May 1, 2018 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Even with helpful title cards telling us it's "MONDAY," "TUESDAY," etc., etc., this is a week that feels 10 days long. Hough Vague Visages Like an aging fighter that steps into the ring on short notice, Robert Smigel's The Week Of is overweight, unfocused and hungry for a paycheck. Feb 20, 2022 Full Review Kiko Vega Espinof 'The Week Of' is a hilarious and touching story about the fear of disappointment, stubbornness and the most heartfelt farewells of middle / lower class parents that a film with an explicit tribute to 'Footloose' may have. Ryland C It was alright. I wish the pacing wasn’t so slow with a bunch of filler happening. I feel like there was way too much going on. And also there were WAY too many characters. Adam Sandlers character is great in this film as well as his daughter who is getting married in this movie but the other characters especially Chris Rocks character is either forgettable or annoying. But the comedy is funny, it has a lot of memorable scenes and it had a really sweet ending. O resto do elenco cumpre o objetivo. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review A H This movie is an intense and drama filled comedy that emphasizes on whatever could go wrong will go wrong. It captures the chaos of having a big family and trying to make everything make in a wedding go right. The short week feels like a month but as life throws you twists and turns that the days feel never ending. However, some aspects of the movie fell flat and too drawn out. A good Adam Sandler movie that was worth the watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Robert H The Week Of on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler, is a comedy that left me with mixed feelings. While it didn't quite hit the mark, it still managed to deliver some genuine laughs and heartfelt moments. The film follows the story of two fathers, Kenny Lustig (Adam Sandler) and Kirby Cordice (Chris Rock), from different walks of life, as they navigate the chaos of their children's wedding week. The setup is ripe for humor, and the cast, which includes Rachel Dratch, Steve Buscemi, and Allison Strong, delivers some solid performances. Adam Sandler, in particular, brings his signature goofiness to the role of Kenny, and his chemistry with Chris Rock is undeniable. The two comedians play off each other well, and their banter provides some of the film's funniest moments. However, the movie's tone can be inconsistent at times, veering wildly from slapstick humor to more sentimental scenes. The pacing also feels a bit sluggish, with some scenes dragging on longer than necessary. Despite these flaws, The Week Of still manages to be an enjoyable, if unremarkable, watch. If you're a fan of Adam Sandler or Chris Rock, you'll likely find some laughs here. Just don't go in expecting a comedy classic.
