We are on the verge of one of the largest mass migrations in human history, and for many, it has already begun. One out of every three people will lose their homes due to climate change, making climate displacement one of the defining crises of our time. THE WELCOME TABLE tells the story of climate migrants across six continents, centering the voices and experiences of survivors on the front lines of the climate crisis while asking hard questions such as "where will we be safe?," "where will my family be safe?," and "how do we welcome those in harm's way?" With the powerful music of John Boutté and other legendary New Orleans artists, Fox brings together people from around the world who have lost their homes, safety, or stability to a changing planet, and asks audiences to imagine a more generous response to a crisis that continues to reshape lives. From the United States to the Caribbean, Italy, Kenya, Peru, Brazil, and Australia, the film traces the devastating human consequences of a changing climate -- from hurricanes and floods to droughts, rising seas, and the impact of extractive industries on Indigenous communities. Through intimate first-hand accounts, THE WELCOME TABLE captures the resilience and perseverance of communities amid life-altering upheaval and a world which increasingly chooses to build walls of exclusion in response. The film culminates in a massive singing celebration on the New Orleans levee, where a 1,000-foot table serves as a powerful expression of connection and resistance.

Unapologetically political, it has a clear message: as the world faces unprecedented levels of migration, compassion must lead the way. While I agree, The Welcome Table is frustratingly overworked. Go to Full Review

Some will take issue with the film’s polemic tendencies and occasional self-righteous tone from its director, but Fox’s words and images render the doc occasionally powerful, and more frequently memorable. Go to Full Review
Christopher Campbell Nonfics (Substack) Jun 19
Very few of the participants are memorable, unfortunately, because they’re given such minimal screen time to tell their own stories...they all come across as props for Fox’s message rather than individuals in need of being (or allowed to be) heard. Go to Full Review

This thoughtfully jazzy film connects environmental concerns to urgent matters of human flow that bring the world closer to its inevitable tipping point. Go to Full Review

donnie M @RT64375194 5d i am an x democrat who has lived in CA all my life and most of my friends are Immigrants who came here legally and work and this is very misleading calling Illegals Immigrants-they know all they have to do is show up like when Joe and Kamala were in charge which was actually Obama doing his dreamed of 3rd term and let between 15 and 20 Million more in and somehow found Immediate Free Housing for all of them and handed them debit cards-free phones and free flights and some of the real lucky ones flown to New York got Luxury Hotel rooms-that is NOT immigration See more Peter P @RT45357899 Jun 28 For an HBO Max Doc, was overall disappointed in the direction the film headed. The singing of songs turned me off immediately. I couldn't get through the first 5 minutes, so I watched the trailer and came to the conclusion it's a 1 Star if that. See more Will R @RT37591087 Jun 24 Emotionally resonating and informative. Josh Fox is becoming increasingly louder, raising the alarm about climate change - while simultaneously remaining forever hopeful. I would have liked more climate scientists but that's more a personal choice. Full review on substack, @xrrebelwill See more Daniel N @RT44074745 Jun 24 the somber coffeehouse soundtrack makes for a good spotify playlist but totally detracts from the film. good effort, good message but not for docufilm buffs.
