Rex Reed Observer The pace of the film may be too slow to thrill every film fan, but writer-director Keith Boynton adds understated understanding to scenes... and he extracts two performances from his co-stars that blend warmly with mutual charisma. Rated: 3/4 Oct 20, 2023 Full Review Alejandro Turdó Hoy Sale Cine The Winter House is a delicate story about two broken souls finding each other under the most unexpected circumstances, teaching us that sometimes the most unexpected people are the ones that make the greatest impact on our lives. Rated: 8/10 Oct 18, 2023 Full Review Tony Asankomah GhMovieFreak While the film's pace might not be for everyone, it does capture the depth of human emotions and the complexities of the bond between two strangers caught in an unlikely situation. Melissa L It wasn't the horror movie I thought it was. It was more of a drama with a little mystery, and some tense moments. In my opinion, it had a great ending, as well. I recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Celine A You had me at Francois Arnaud. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/23 Full Review Keith B I may be biased, but I thought it was really lovely. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Beatriz L A middle aged woman who is searching for answers. A young man who has stopped asking questions. Both close to an edge where they expected to be alone. An unlikely pair, they are brought together by loss, hopelessness - and literature. One is a seasoned writer, the other dabbled in poetry long ago, but both are equally moved by the poignancy of words, which is pretty much all they have in this isolated, beautiful spot. And it is words that will bring them back from the edge. Brilliant dialogue - which often becomes a very witty, enjoyable fencing match; a setting that is both bleak and beautiful; excellent, nuanced acting, and masterful directing make this movie a real pleasure to watch, and one that you are not likely to forget. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Suzy D What happens when you meet someone you like, and know they're lying about who they are? What if you're lying too, even to yourself? Is there any coming back from that? This movie is not what you think at first--or on the first two or three guesses. But eventually all is revealed. Eileen is the latest, perhaps the calmest and at the same time the strongest (so far) of all the formidably strong and capable female characters Boynton develops so beautifully and completely. Both Taylor's and Arnaud's performances are rock-solid, the nuances of their close-ups and micro-expressive reaction shots astonishingly masterful. Beautiful photography, lovely score, masterfully nuanced performances aided by sensitive dialogue and direction from writer/director Keith Boynton. An authentic, suspenseful, improbable and very satisfyingly grown-up romance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
